Iron Curtain Trail
EV13 STAGE: GMÜND – LITSCHAU – GMÜND
The picturesque stage of the Iron Curtain Trail between Gmünd and Litschau is always worth doing. The cycle trail mainly runs along the northern branch of the traditional narrow-gauge railway.
You will enjoy a trip through tranquil woodlands and sweeping fields, past picturesque villages and small towns, always skirting the border with the Czech Republic. It goes without saying that stopping off for refreshments in the many inviting guesthouses along the way is a must.
The route is continuous and newly signposted in both directions and both Litschau and Gmünd can be chosen as starting points. This means you can do stretches of the trail on the Waldviertel Railway – perfect for a short cycling excursion.
Worthwhile destinations:
Gmünd town square, Glass Art Garden in Alt Nagelberg, Lake Herrensee and Railway Museum in Litschau
