Bicycle transport is free of charge on the Waldviertelbahn. (Only a limited number of bicycles are possible. Mandatory free bicycle parking reservation at the information centre. (Only a limited number of bicycles are possible)
A flat rate of €6.00 per day is charged for transporting a dog .
(Muzzles and leashes are mandatory!)
The reduced fare applies to the following persons:
- Senior citizens aged 65 and over
- Holders of the Familienland*Pass and the Upper Austrian Family Card
- Passengers with a disability of 70% or more (note in disability pass)
- Group discount for 20 or more people (every 21st person free)
- School group discount for 20 or more people (21st and 22nd person free)
- Non-standard fare concessions (ATF)
- Holders of the Klimaticket.
Further discounts:
- Disabled persons' companions free of charge if noted in the disability pass
- Assistance dogs free of charge if noted in the disability pass
Lower Austria Card:
Holders of the Lower Austria CARD can use the NÖ-CARD once a year to travel free of charge on the Waldviertelbahn for a return journey on diesel trains between Gmünd-Groß Gerungs and Gmünd-Litschau. The Lower Austria CARD is not accepted on steam trains.
Notes:
- The Waldviertelbahn's own fare applies on trains
- ÖBB discount offers (e.g. VorteilsCard, ÖsterreichCard, Einfach-Raus-Ticket, etc.) are not valid
- No free travel with the KlimaTicket
- Tickets from transport associations (e.g. bus tickets or season tickets) are not accepted
Purchasing tickets:
- You can book your ticket online in the Niederösterreich Bahnen web shop.
- There is a ticket machine available at Gmünd station.
- Tickets can also be purchased directly on the train at no extra charge! Payment can be made in cash or by debit or credit card.
- You can obtain travel and price information from the Lower Austria Railways Infocenter.
- Reservations can also be made at the Lower Austria Railways Information Centre.
